Why are podcasts so popular? What are their benefits?

Mobility and Convenience

An obvious benefit for podcasts is that they are perfect for on the go. Whether you are driving, on public transport, working out or simply doing chores around the house. Podcasts are available at your fingertips. They are as easy and accesible as listening to music.

Spoken Medium

If you imagine reading an article or a blog, especially if you don’t have the time to dedicate to it, the tendency is to skim through and try and take away key points. What’s interesting about podcasting is that the way we retain the information is completely different. Every word is spoken and therefore subconsciously you are still absorbing the information, even if you are otherwise occupied. You won’t even realise the amount of information you have absorbed until after listening to it.

Audience Engagement

Following on from the previous point, another benefit of it being a spoken medium is that you can hear the intonations and the mood of the speaker more easily. This creates a more personable feel and helps the listener engage more easily with the content. Furthermore, it is usually 2 or more people participating in the discussion, in a relaxed environment and therefore it makes you feel involved in the conversation.

Adaptability

There are no set rules for podcasting. They can be short, snappy and informative or lengthy, detailed and thorough. They can be for entertainment, academic or informative purposes and they ultimately don’t have a lifeline because they can constantly adapt to meet the demands of society. In addition, they can provide clarity with more complex subjects in a more effective way than a detailed academic blog or article could. Furthermore, it's likely that listeners will tend to consume multiple shows; research shows on average 7 different podcasts a week.

Accessibility

Being published on big streaming sites such as Spotify and Apple Music, so many podcasts can immediately reach a big audience. This is why many companies have decided to use podcasting as a marketing tool. Check out our blog about podcasting as an inbound marketing strategy to learn more about this aspect.

This trend has definitely infiltrated the world of real estate. With regards to proptech, there are countless shows all dedicated to staying up to date with the latest news, as well as discussing thoughts and ideas about new technological developments within the sector and hearing insights from experts.

And lastly, but certainly not least, if we have missed out a particular podcast or you would like to be included in this list - write to us and we'll evaluate your suggestions!
